Post Remediation Verification (PRV)

Once remediation work has been completed, the next step is verifying that the documented objectives have been met.

A Post Remediation Verification (PRV) is conducted after remediation to assess whether moisture conditions have been corrected and whether remediation efforts align with established remediation objectives and recognized industry guidance.

Many homeowners are familiar with the term “clearance testing.” The IICRC term for this process is Post Remediation Verification. The goal is not simply testing — it is confirming that the remediation process achieved its intended outcome.

Why a Post Remediation Verification Matters

Remediation is only complete when defined objectives have been met.

Without an independent verification, property owners are often left relying solely on the remediation contractor’s assessment of their own work.

A PRV provides:

  • Independent verification of remediation efforts

  • Evaluation of containment and final cleaning

  • Confirmation that moisture sources have been addressed

  • Environmental sampling when appropriate to confirm defined clearance objectives

A Post Remediation Verification may be performed following remediation completed under our protocol or under a plan developed by another party.

The verification focuses on current environmental conditions and whether remediation objectives have been achieved.

For a PRV to be meaningful, it must occur at the proper time.

Best practice is for the Post Remediation Verification to take place after remediation work is complete, but before containment is removed and before any rebuilding begins.

Evaluating the work prior to containment removal allows any identified deficiencies to be corrected within controlled conditions — avoiding disruption, additional demolition, or repeated reconstruction later.

What a Post Remediation Verification May Include

Depending on the scope of remediation, a PRV may involve:

  • Visual inspection of remediated areas

  • Verification that containment remains intact at time of evaluation

  • Moisture re-assessment of previously affected materials and areas

  • Environmental sampling when defined clearance objectives require it

  • Comparison of current conditions to the original remediation protocol

Sampling is performed only when appropriate and when it aligns with the defined remediation goals.

Important Considerations

A Post Remediation Verification reflects environmental conditions present at the time of the verification. It does not guarantee future conditions.

If conditions are identified that do not meet defined objectives, findings will be documented so that corrective action can be taken before the project is considered complete and containment is removed.

Our role is to assess environmental conditions based on documented standards. We do not supervise remediation crews or assume responsibility for contractor performance.

When to Schedule a PRV

A Post Remediation Verification should be scheduled:

  • After remediation work has been completed

  • Before containment is removed

  • Before reconstruction or building materials are replaced

  • When written verification of remediation completion is desired

Scheduling the PRV at the appropriate stage helps protect your investment and ensures remediation objectives are confirmed before moving forward.

Next Steps

Post-Remediation Evaluation is typically discussed during protocol development or remediation consulting.

We begin with a complimentary consultation to confirm timing and scope before scheduling an on-site evaluation.
